Generative AI Art - Midjourney and DALL-E Explorations
During the GPT chat hype, a few pictures of AI-generated art made by DALL-E emerged, notably the astronaut sitting on the horse, and I was blown away. It was amazing how one could describe a picture in natural language, and AI would make it. Essentially, now one is not limited by their painting and sketching skills but by their imagination. So, I had to explore this. I started with DALL-E, and after making about 50 images, it was pretty clear to me that I tend to lean towards ‘dramatic stills’ involving characters and people. By this time, I had read enough blogs to discover Midjourney, which excelled in creating characters and people. Therefore, I decided to give it a try and gain some hands-on experience. The beautiful results are displayed below.

I tried to recreate this in Midjourney, but after several failed attempts to include both the northern lights and the mermaid in one scene, I gave up. Instead, I played around and created something similar, much more pleasing to the eye, as you can see below. The original concept image in my mind, where a mermaid, surrounded by a bunch of jellyfish, looks up from underwater at the auroras above, well, let’s keep that for future versions of DALL-E and Midjourney. Right now, making that happen might need some serious effort; maybe putting together separate scenes in Midjourney, merging them, and then fine-tuning with some heavy editing in Photoshop. However, my aim here was to do this entirely through natural language prompts and experimenting with different variations, which, unfortunately, I couldn’t pull off. Regardless, I had a blast creating with Midjourney, just for its cool aesthetics.
